ALAN LEE HEUER (signs his work as AHeuer or Alan Heuer), listed in the Artist Blue Book, is an internationally collected artist living and painting in northern New Mexico.
We live in a time when the urbanization of our once wild continent has become our reality. True, there are places of escape, but even our most treasured, protected landscapes do not necessarily encompass the total ecosystem necessary for their very survival. We live in a quandry of wanting the convenience of massive urban centers yet desiring the naked beauty of our once uncivilized past, a past caught briefly by the romantic illuminists of the late 19th century -- Albert Bierstadt, Fredirick Church, Thomas Cole, men who painted huge romantic landscapes that lost their popularity and became almost mundane with the onslaught of images more reflective of the twentieth century. But, global warming, traffic jams and the general mundanity of our massive cities has once again made us more aware and desirous of living and working in harmony with nature; we want to cross the thin line between causing nature's destruction and preserving what's left in spite of ourselves.
"Pleasant Dreams" is but one culmination and combining of personal experiences and longings, of places remembered and places only imagined, the thin line between often mundane realities and the displaced utopias of dreams.
